Question by Slavadon M: overall is a 5 series better or worse than a 3 series ’94-’99?
I’m wondering what would be a better buy a 3 or 5 series from 1994 to 1999. What are the pros and cons of each one.

3 series..I do not know much about 5 in this time period. but 3 was built like a tank and solid built….Go for 3, still look much better than E36

depends on engine size/ model etc and what you want it for, i woud always go for the 5 because it is bigger, but research the model (autotrader or spot on, go to value vehicle, put info in and it tells you price , good and bad things etc) 3 series is quicker and cheaper to run! 99′ 5 series still looks good to me

I’ve owned both, and I would prefer the 5 over the 3.
The five is a newer design 96-99 than the 3 92-98 and has about the same performance and economy at the 6 cyl 3 series. I do have 290k miles on my 3, but the interior didn’t hold up well at all. The five has a lot of miles but held up much better. It also depends on how many doors you want cause the 5 only comes in 4 doors

the 3 will be easier to resell it’s more nimble and the m-tec e36′s are lovely! 5 series eventuelly came with angel eyes as standard! The interior is tougher on a 5.. The 3series is more responsive to the right foot. . The 5′s are popular auto boxes and the diesels were a great option!

both good cars but whichever one you decide on make sure its got the 6cylinder engine other than that the choice is personnel preference on size of car
